Trying for a Baby

Having been a baby person all my life, I always thought I'd jump right into the excitement of getting pregnant. While the excitement is there, maybe being years wiser, causes reality and the life changing decision to be a bigger deal. After deciding with my husband that we would enjoy our first year of marriage without a child, when our anniversary came around we decided ready or not (and we knew were ready just a bit scared) we'd jump all in.
We were headed to Europe for our anniversary summer vacation to visit family and friends and decided that would be a great time to start trying. I had been tracking my cycle with Clue for a few months now so I knew I would be ovulating right around then. During the trip I did some research and found out some key facts in trying to get pregnant:
Sperm can live in your body for up to five days waiting for your egg
The egg only stays viable for fertilization for 24 hours after dropping
Most women ovulate around 15 days after the first day of their last period
Your due date is calculated based on the first day of your last period
Roughly 60% of women trying get pregnant within the first 3 months, 80% in the first 6 months
While I definitely knew the basic birds and the bees, I didn't know some of these key details. After our Europe trip was over and we were back home, I was definitely disappointed when my period decide to pay me a visit. Taking to logical approach to wondering why we weren't pregnant, while most people ovulate around day 15, maybe I ovulate earlier and thus we missed the window? Maybe because we got pretty sick with the flu during the end of the trip, my body decided the egg and/or surroundings weren't healthy enough for a baby to exist at that time? Whatever the reason, we'd try again. And this time, knowing the key facts mentioned above, we started right after my period ensuring that no three days went by without tumbling around under the sheets. That way, whenever my egg did drop, my husband's little friends would be there waiting.
